HHO: Introduce yourself to the fans

Lyrical_Gift: Marquis Brunson aka Lyrical_Gift (Lyrical) and I’m 20 years old

HHO: How did your artist name come about?

Lyrical_Gift: I got my name from my father. He was an underground rapper by the name of Dustorm Tha Lyrical, and as I grew older and started getting better with my writing and lyricism he passed down the name Lyrical to me. I added the gift part because I know this blessing is a gift from God so It just always reminds me who to thank for all of this. Also somebody already had the name lyrical on IG lol.

HHO: Where are you from?

Lyrical_Gift: Im from The Bronx, NY I currently attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia

HHO: Who were your musical influences growing up?

Lyrical_Gift: Growing up I was influenced by pure NYC music so 50 cent, Fat Joe, who was actually from my neighborhood I believe lol, Fabolous, Dipset, Biggie, Nas, even Lil Kim. I learned a lot from them.

HHO: What hip-hop albums did you grow up listening to?

Lyrical_Gift: Honestly growing up I listened to a lot of my fathers music but he put me on to a lot of old school hip hop albums like Big Daddy Kane’s “It’s A Big Daddy Thing” All ATCQ albums but my favorite are “Midnight Marauders” & “The Low End Theory” “Life After Death” “Illmatic” and many more.

HHO: What is the current single/project that you are promoting?

Lyrical_Gift: Currently, I just released My first solo EP “The FlyFnLyricist” on 1.1.17 so I’m pretty excited about that.

HHO: How did the record come about?

Lyrical_Gift: Well I have music out with my partner TFace, we do most of our music together but I wanted to give people something that was just me. Also I just wanted people to stop sleeping on me and take me seriously as an artist because I’m making some great music tbh and Im doing things that i don’t think any mainstream artist is consistently doing, but people weren’t listening. I don’t curse at all in my music. I don’t disrespect women in any of my songs whatsoever either. I find it unnecessary, plus that limits the amount of people who can listen to my stuff or places where it can be played. I want everyone to be able to enjoy my music you know? Plus my parents and their friends listen to my stuff and I’m a reflection of them so I just find clever ways to say the wild things other rappers say. So since the summer I’ve been working and writing, I had 5 singles that I released throughout the summer and fall on my soundcloud, my lead singles so far has been “Not Alright” and “3AM In The Bronx”. I came up with the cover and the title. I went to school for the fall semester and was writing songs whenever I had time, while doing work for class (sometimes even in class lol). I came home recorded all of the rest of the tracks (I believe 9 more) in 2 days and let my amazing engineer Ja-Beats work his magic and then BOOM! We’re here !

HHO: What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?

Lyrical_Gift: Dream collaborations would definitely be Logic, Kendrick, Cole, Chance, Fabolous, Dave East, Bas, Kur, Drake, 2 Chainz, Big Sean. Producers: Beat Bully, Maaly Raw, Timbaland, !llMind, Mike Dean, Cole, Metro Boomin (we went to the same college hopefully i’ll get a pass lol) I have high aspirations, but I’m gonna get there though!

HHO: How is the response from your fans & djs been?

Lyrical_Gift: The response from the EP has been great! I have a great support system, it may not be thousands of people but it feels like it and I appreciate every single person that does support the grind. I get text messages and calls from people everyday like “bro you bodied every song” or like “ Nah they need to stop playing with you” or “Im so proud don’t forget about me !” lol. Its cool people are finally noticing the progression and realizing I’m not playing anymore, this is forreal.

HHO: What artists do you listen to the most?

Lyrical_Gift: Right now I listen to Logic, Kur, Cole, Mac Miller and Tface honestly the most. Chance The Rapper also, he’s amazing and a big inspiration. and Chixtape 4 by Tory Lanez, I’m and RnB junkiee forreal

HHO: What are your plans for 2017? What are you doing that others are not?

Lyrical_Gift: 2017, Im pushing this EP until the wheels fall off! I’m entering competitions trying to do as many performances to get my name out so people can listen because I think this is really the one thats gunna take me over the top. I think besides the no cursing and derogatory statements in my music, Im really big on conceptual songs. I love to tell stories and I plan on getting back to that 2017 as well. Me and T have done this previously on songs like “Chef” and “Innocent” and people really seem to love that type of music because it’s like a movie in your ears and you can create the images yourself using the words and actions we say. Its pretty cool! I would love to do one with Joyner Lucas, he’s sorta the reason why I started doing them honestly

HHO: How can your fans reach you?

Lyrical_Gift: Fans can reach me on IG @lyrical_gift, Twitter @FlyFnMusic and Facebook which is just my name lol, but they can follow my music page on Facebook @LyricalGift

HHO: Any last words or shout outs?

Lyrical_Gift: I just want to say thank you HipHopOverload for the opportunity, Shoutout to Tface make sure y’all check out his music this man is a problem. All my brothers in NY and ATL, Shoutout the whole NYC, the Bronx especially. My mom and dad, I love y’all. And anybody that supports FlyFnMusik! Thank you
